The Bradley Winter Open is held in the Winter of each year, usually in January. The goal is to provide a high quality tournament with strong competition to allow club players from the central Illinois area to mix and play games with Masters and other strong players. A large prize fund is provided to draw top players. Players are divided into 2 Sections. Anyone can play in the Open Section giving everyone a opportunity to play against a Master. The reserve is restricted to players rated less than 1400 to provide competitive games for everyone

4 Round Swiss System in 2 Sections:
Open - All players of all strengths are welcome.
Reserve - Only available for players with Ratings 1400 & under.

Time Control:

Game 80 with 5 second delay

  • Expert (2000-2199) $60 & $30
  • Class A (1800-1999) $60 & $30
  • Class B (1600-1799) $60 & $30
  • Class C (Below 1600) $60 & $30
Upset . . . $25 (200 Point difference to qualify)
Classes may be combined if less than 3 in a class

Tournament Entry Fees:

Early: $30 if received on or before January 24th, 2018
Late: $40 if received after January 24th or at the door.
Masters play free in Peoria, we appreciate their participation.
NOTE:Players who are eligible to play in the Reserve section must pay a $10 upgrade fee to play in the Open section.

Sets, Boards & clocks will be provided. Organizer provided equipment must be used in cases of equipment dispute. Organizer provided equipment will be discounted and on sale upon tournament completion for schools, clubs and players to purchase.

Directions to Bradley University:

From I-74 take University Street Exit (91) South. Turn Right into the Bradley campus just after passing Main Street. Go straight through the 1st intersection. Turn Left into the Bradley Visitors parking area halfway down the block. The Student Center will be a half block beyond the parking lot and on Elmwood to your right. The Chess Tournament will be in the second building on your left.

From Downtown (or entering the city from the highways along the river), turn away from the river on Main Street. Travel up the hill and Turn Left on University Street. Turn Right immediately into the Bradley campus. Go straight through the 1st intersection. Turn Left into the Bradley Visitors parking area halfway down the block. The Student Center will be a half block beyond the parking lot and on Elmwood to your right. The Chess Tournament will be in the second building on your left.
